RentCafe and Yardi Matrix teamed up to find out which of the 100 largest American cities offered the best-sized apartment for $1,500 per month in rent. To find this out, RentCafe and Yardi Matrix looked at the 100 largest cities in the U.S. by population, based on 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimate data. From there, they searched for apartment spaces that can be rented for $1,500 a month, which was determined by looking at the price per square foot and the average size of apartments per city. Those numbers were then crunched, sorted, and put into an easy-to-read map that shows which of the top 100 American cities offered the best-sized apartment for $1,500 rent (or $18,000 a year). There weren’t a whole lot of surprises in what the data found – but it’s certainly interesting. It wasn’t a surprise to see that cities in the Midwest and south offered the best sizes to price range ratio. The coastal cities in the West and East had some apartments in the price range, but they were considerably smaller.
